Thank God for the IPL

April 23, 2009

Confession 1:
I would like to believe that when it comes to cricket, I am puritanical and sanctimonious. Loosely this translates to having a preference for Test cricket over any kind of limited overs format

Confession 2:
I cannot take my eyes off the IPL 2nd season being played out in South Africa.

April has been a particularly boring month. The fact that I have not managed a single post till date during the month is witness to that. For a variety of reasons, my life seems to have stagnated even more so than it has in the last few months. The fact that we have been, more desperately with each passing day, trying to raise equity to keep the organisation going beyond August, has a lot to do with this feeling. It has been a humbling experience, to say the least.

Amidst this gloomy scenario, the IPL has come out as a breath of fresh air. Given the immediacy and the frivolity of T20 cricket, I can personally vouch for the fact that it is a much better balm for the depressed soul than the longer version. Makes one believe that the new day will bring along with it better prospects.

As for the matches themselves, there is no denying that the buzz is missing. There is an element of artificiality to the whole event. Rahul Dravid’s performance has been spectacular. But more about all this in later posts.

Off to watch the Chennai (my team) Vs. Delhi now.
